Hawaiian Jewelry History

The history of Hawaiian Jewelry traces its origins back to the 19th century, with various accounts passed down through generations. One such legend involves Queen Kapiʻolani and Princess Liliʻuokalani, who reportedly received bracelets engraved with their names during Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887.

However, the first bracelet designed by Queen Lili'uokalani herself was commissioned in 1862. Drawing inspiration from Victorian aesthetics and to commemorate her close bond with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of England, Queen Liliʻuokalani ordered a bracelet inscribed with "Hoʻomanaʻo Mau" (Lasting Memory) in old English lettering accented with black enamel long before her attendance at the event. This bracelet became a cherished possession that she wore throughout her lifetime.

Creating a tradition that still lives on today.
